4 more hydropower projects in Quang Nam

There will be four more hydropower projects in two mountainous districts, namely Dong Giang and Southern Tra Mi. In Quang Nam province, there are currently 15 hydropower projects which are being carried out.

Up to the beginning of May 2008, there have been 4 projects constructed as follows: Dak Di Hydropower 1 in Tra Nam and Tra Don communes has the installed capacity of 16 MW, the total investment of over VND 331 billion, the annual power output of 71 million kWh with the reservoir foundation area of more than 7 hectares. Dak Di Hydropower 2 has the installed capacity of 12 MW, the annual power output of more than 50 million kWh, the reservoir foundation area of around 7 hectares and the entire investment of over VND 252 billion. These two projects are invested by Cuu Long Electricity Consulting and Development Company.
In Dong Giang district, Nhan Luat Energy Joint Stock Company has decided to invest in the construction of Pa Oi hydropower plants in Zuoih commune. The plant has the capacity of 15 MW and the total investment of VND 334 billion. The project will be carried out at the end of the year 208.
Before that, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has decided to invest in a hydropower project in A Xan commune, Dong Giang district. The project has the installed capacity of 75 kW/year with the entire investment of USD 518,000. It is financed by Sweden Government and the local budget with USD 414,000 and USD 103,600, respectively. The project will be implemented in June 2008, and when being put into operation, it will supply electricity for nearly 300 households in 6 villages of A Xan commune.
To date, Quang Nam has planned 57 hydropower projects in Vu Gia – Thu Bon river system with the total installed capacity of 1,100 MW. Among those, there are 8 great hydropower projects as planned by the former Ministry of Industry and Trade, including A Vuong (210MW), Bung River 2 (100MW), Bung River 4 (220MW), Giang River (60MW), Dak Mi 1 (255MW), Dak Mi 4 (210MW), Con River 2 (60MW) in Vu Gia river; and Tranh River 2 (135MW) in Thu Bon river.
