The Prime Minister to Establish the Steering Committee of Power Planning

On October 24th, the Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung approved of establishing The Steering Committee of Power Planning VI.

The Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai is the leader of the Steering Committee, the Minister of Ministry of Industry And Commerce Vu Huy Hoang is the vice leader and the Vice Ministers or corresponding levels of 11 relevant Ministries or branches are 11 members.

Steering Committee has four main obligations and functions. Firstly, Steering Committee guides and monitors power source and network projects approved by the Prime Minister at Decision No. 110/ 2007/ QĐ-TT on July 18th 2007 about Power Planning VI.

Second, with the given authority from the Prime Minister, the Steering Committee sets up the mechanism and policies and solves specific problems within the authority of the Prime Minister in the implementation of the Power Planning VI. The Steering Committee also has to summit the Prime Minister the construction’s rate of progress and the quality of power projects. If doing anything out of the jurisdiction, the Steering Committee needs to ask for the permission from the Prime Minister.

Besides, the Steering Committee supplies the guidance for Ministries, branches, and People Committees of relating provinces along with investors, domestic and foreign consulting centers and contractors to fulfill the tasks in order to assure the speed and quality of the projects.

Additionally, The Steering Committee has to cooperate with relevant branches and locals to find solutions to the problem of migration, resettlement and liberation of river-bed and plain to execute the Son La Hydropower Project.

The fund for Steering Committee’s activities is derived from the costs of power projects.
