In order to prevent power shortage and to achieve the goal of increasing by 1,400 MW of power output in this year, partially solving the energy related problem, The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) is speeding up the projects on power generation.

Spillway of Dai Ninh Hydropower

EVN is concentrating on projects that may be completed in the year like unit 3 of Tuyen Quang hydropower project (114 MW), Ba Ha River hydropower project (220MW), Buon Kuop hydropower project (90 MW), Hai Phong thermal power project (300 MW) and unit 1 of A Vuong hydropower (105 MW). At the same time, EVN is shorten the slow progress of the projects which have been constructed since the beginning of 2008 like Nghi Son thermal power I, Kon Tum Upstream hydropower, Mong Duong thermal power I, Vinh Tan thermal power II and Duyen Hai I, and is continuing to speeding up the progress rate of Son La hydropower, Son Dong thermal power and Se San hydropower 4 and O Mon I.
In 2008, EVN will put 6 power plants with the total capacity of nearly 1,400 MW into practice, which consists of unit 2 and 3 of Tuyen Quang hydropower (228 MW), unit 1 and 2 of PleiKrong hydropower (100 MW), Dai Ninh hydropower (300 MW), Ba Ha River hydropower (220 MW), unit 1 of Buon Kuop hydropower (90 MW) and unit 1 of Hai Phong thermal power (300 MW). Besides, there will be 3 other power plants with the entire capacity of 1,300 MW, the cooperation between EVN and other enterprises, which will also be put into operation. Theses projects are being constructed.
As evaluated by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, unit 2 of Tuyen Quang hydropower with the capacity of 342 MW and the average power output of 1,295 billion kWh/year is the second largest hydropower plant in the North which has officially generated and joined the national power network since May 30th, 2008 with safe technical data. Before that, unit 1 has officially joined the national power network since February 2008 and has been stably operating. With two units, this power plant supplies mostly 4 million kWh of power for production and population’s consumption. Moreover, in June, Ca Mau Power Company No.2 (750 MW) also joined the national power network. For Son La hydropower project, the progress rate is basically maintained as planned.
