As revealed by The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) on August 4th, the maximum additional load of the power system in Vietnam, which is estimated at 12,000 – 15,000 MW/day, usually falls in the rush hours during the day. Meanwhile, the feasible capacity of the system in the beginning of this August is just 11,000 MW. Therefore, the generating capacity of the system cannot meet the loading demand, which makes the power system lacks about 1,000 – 1,500 MW in peak hours.

According to EVN, the nationwide power supply is still facing difficulties because some new power generations have not stably operated. For instance, from 2nd to 4th of August, two units of Ca Mau Power Plant 1 with the capacity of 750 MW stopped generating and did not generate until midday of August 4th. Also reported by Ca Mau Power Plant 1, from 13th to 23rd of August, all units will take turns to stop operating to be repaired and from 18th to 19th of August, the whole plant will stop operating.
Ca Mau Power Plant 2 is current experimenting the single cycle of 1 or 2 units with the generating capacity of just around 150 MW. The unit 1 of Nhon Trach Power Plant is operating the single cycle which has the capacity of 150 MW and the unit 2 of this plant is being adjusting. Moreover, Uong Bi Power Plant Extension (300 MW) contracted by Lilama has not been operated yet due to the incidence of the transformer since May 18th.
In accordance with the requirement of Phu My Power Plant 2.2 invested by Me Kong Energy Company, one unit of 360 MW has stopped operating to be repaired in one or two months since August 1st, and the remaining unit with the capacity of 360 MW will also stop from 8th to 12th of August. After that, only a single cycle unit with the capacity of 220 MW will be put into operation in a period of one month.
Since the beginning of August, the water flow to reservoirs in the Central and the South has increased, which has improved the supply of power. Still, there will be difficulties remaining in this August because some power generations have not been stably operated yet.
