The benchmark VN-Index lost value in the closing minutes of this morning's session, giving up 0.17 per cent to 436.64 points.

A slump of over 3 per cent of the second largest company PV Gas (GAS) drove the Index down while other blue chips posted modest gains on the HCM City Stock Exchange.

Half of the top 30 shares by market value and liquidity increased, with the VN30 Index up 0.2 per cent to 515.29 points.

Advancers doubled decliners overall, with Tan Tao Investment Industry (ITA) temporarily leading trades in HCM City, with over 3 million shares changing hands. ITA shares rose 2.6 per cent to close at VND7,900.

The overall trading value was still sluggish, totalling more than VND696.4 billion (US$33 million) on a volume of nearly 48.7 million shares.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index closed up 0.12 per cent to 76.15 points.

The total market value hit VND378.4 billion ($18 million) with 37 million shares changing hands.

Gainers equalled losers at 108-109.

Five codes saw trades in excess of 2 million shares, including VNDirect Securities (VND), Sai Gon-Ha Noi Bank (SHB), property developer Sacomreal (SCR), PetroVietnam Construction (PVX) and Habubank (HBB), of which the latter led with a trade of 2.92 million shares, closing unchanged at VND5,300.

The afternoon session was to resume at 1pm.
